A recently engaged woman died after falling off a cliff in Turkey, just seconds after her husband-to-be proposed.
Yesim Demir, 39, and her new fiancé, Nizamettin Gursu, were preparing to celebrate the important event with a sunset picnic when she fell over 100 feet from a high cliff in Canakkale, Turkey, on July 6.
According to Newsflash, the groom-to-be had just proposed and had returned to their car to get the celebrating food and drinks when he heard a blood-curdling scream.
Gursu went back to the picturesque cliffside location of Polente Cape, only to discover his fiancée had fallen over the edge.
The bereaved man later told local media that the couple chose the location to get engaged because they thought it would be romantic.
“We chose it to have a romantic memory after the proposal. We drank some alcohol. Everything happened at once. She lost her balance and fell down,” Gursu said.
Demir initially survived the massive 104-foot fall but later succumbed to her injuries.
Gursu promptly called for help, but after 45 minutes of resuscitation efforts, medics declared his wife-to-be dead.
Friends of the tragic woman told local media that the cliff where the accident occurred was a spot many people went to watch the sunset.
“This is a place where everyone comes and watches the sunset,” they said. “However, the roads are very bad and there is no precaution on the edge of the cliff. A fence should be drawn here, precautions should be taken.”
