In the largest paedophile case in French history, a VILE surgeon has been charged with raping almost 300 children during a 25-year period when they were under anesthesia.
Joel Le Scouarnec, 73, will appear in court once more this month after previously receiving a 15-year prison sentence in another startling case.
Between 1989 and 2014, the disgraced surgeon is said to have abused hundreds of youngsters.
Le Scouarnec’s trial in Vannes, north-west France, will begin with more than 150 counts of sexual assault and more than 100 charges of rape.
After it was discovered that numerous opportunities to stop the monster were lost, alarming doubts were raised.
The French authorities were informed by the FBI that the former surgeon had been browsing websites that dealt with child abuse.
Despite receiving a four-month suspended sentence for that heinous act in 2005, Le Scouarnec’s career remained unaffected.
It was discovered that after being informed of this conviction in 2006, the French health ministry chose not to fire Le Scouarnec.
His case has sparked inquiries about an alleged cover-up by the hospitals and coworkers he worked for.
According to France Info, Le Scouarnec’s prior conviction had caused a great deal of controversy at the Quimperlé hospital when one of his coworkers unintentionally learned of his sentence.
This worker wrote a letter to the management saying they had “doubts about (his) ability to remain completely calm when in contact with young children”.
Despite this, a unanimous decision was made to keep him at work with no extra checks.
In November 2006, his complaint was also forwarded to the disciplinary division of the French health ministry, but nothing was done.
Even though Le Scouarnec had reached the legal retirement age, the ministry permitted him to continue working in 2015.
The discredited doctor will appear in court again for the approximately 300 documented child victims, the majority of whom were allegedly mistreated in the hospital where he worked.
After his six-year-old neighbor reported rapes in 2017, Le Scouarnec was eventually imprisoned and quit his job at the hospital.
In 2020, the former doctor was arrested for raping and sexually assaulting four young girls, and he was given a 15-year prison sentence.
One of these fatalities was a former patient of his, two were his nieces, and the fourth was his neighbor.
Investigators found startling things at his house when he was arrested in 2017.
More than 300,000 pictures of child abuse were found, along with horrifying kid-sized sex dolls.
According to Le Parisien, authorities also discovered diaries in which he characterized himself as “exhibitionist, voyeur, sadist, masochist, scatologist, fetishist, pedophile,” detailing sexual encounters with youngsters.
He added: “And I am very happy about it.”
According to reports, his diaries detailed the alleged acts in great detail and showed little remorse or sympathy.
Le Scouarnec insisted that these statements were merely his ill “fantasies” and denied that they were true.
In the hospitals he worked at in Morbihan, Finistère, Indre-et-Loire, and Charente-Maritime, authorities suspect the ailing physician frequently operated on his alleged victims while they were unconscious, according to Le Parisien.
Even with their parents there, some of his alleged victims, who are now older, said the doctor touched them improperly.
The sick doctor might now be sentenced to 20 years in prison, which is the maximum penalty for aggravated rape in France, barring repeat offenses.
