Bronx woman went through the bathroom floor of her apartment and straight into the basement on Sunday.
In the six-story brick building at 1204 Shakespeare Ave. in Highbridge, where the victim, her husband, and their young kid reside, fell to the ground after a chunk of concrete under the floor of her bathroom broke way, according to neighbours.
There was no immediate information about her condition.
“She went through the bathroom floor to the basement,” stunned resident Raysa Mota, 37, said. “She fell into the basement! I heard the trucks come to help.”
Raysa Mota, a 37-year-old resident, was speechless. “She went through the bathroom floor to the basement,” she added. “She tumbled down the cellar! The arrival of the aid trucks was heard.
“The Department of Buildings has determined that conditions within this premises are immediately perilous to life,” the order states. “This premises has been vacated and re-entry is prohibited until such conditions have been eliminated to the satisfaction of the department.”
Residents of the site said they have previously complained of hazardous conditions in their homes and building neglect.
“Every apartment has something broken,” said a female first-floor neighbor who asked not to be named. “My apartment has many things broken. Very dangerous. They fix nothing!”
