A body has been discovered in the search for a missing grandfather who went missing nearly five months ago.
William Hogg, 75, was last seen on October 5 in Stirling, Scotland. Following his disappearance, police and mountain rescue teams conducted extensive searches in the area.
Officers have now confirmed the discovery of a body in a wooded area in rural west Scotland.
Although formal identification has not yet occurred, William’s heartbroken family has been notified.
The body discovered near the hamlet of Kilmahog in Callander is thought to be that of the missing Falkirk pensioner.
There appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. We reported in December that despite combing CCTV footage, no trace of the pensioner had been found, prompting a new plea from his granddaughter Amy Rooney, according to the Daily Record.
“Just doing a wee re-appeal to see if anyone has seen or heard from my Papa,” she wrote. He’s been missing since Wednesday, October 5, 2022, and was last seen in Callander on the day he went missing, but he’s originally from Falkirk.
“So he could be anywhere by now. Can everyone please have a wee think to see if they have seen him and also look at dash cams on cars and vans etc. I just hope he’s safe. He must be somewhere.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed this on Saturday morning: “On Friday, February 24, around 4 p.m., the body of a man was discovered in a wooded area near Kilmahog, Callander.
“Although formal identification has yet to take place, the family of 75-year-old Falkirk resident William Hogg, who was last seen in the Callander area on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, has been notified.
“There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
