Model Sophia Mirza, former prime minister’s accountability aide Shahzad Akbar, and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officers have all been charged by the Islamabad Police with conspiracy, falsification, and abuse of public authority at the request of Sophia’s ex-husband, Umar Farooq Zahoor.
Norwegian-born Pakistani businessman Umar filed a case (465/22) at the Secretariat police station in Islamabad, saying that Sophia and Akbar plotted to construct a story against him by abusing their positions of power and exerting undue influence. The Secretariat police station acknowledged the existence of a case.
Umar has hired attorney Mian Ali Ashfaq to represent him in this dispute in various forums. According to the attorney, there is strong evidence against the suspects, and conviction is likely with effective and vigorous prosecution of this case.
According to Umar’s attorney, Islamabad Police should use every means at their disposal to apprehend Akbar and prosecute him in this case, including arresting him via Interpol if he refuses to abide by the notices they have issued to him in a timely manner.
Umar claimed in the application that Sophia, also known as Khushbakhat Mirza, and Akbar conspired against him and purposefully misled PTI Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan’s cabinet by withholding the information that he was the Ambassador-at-Large of Liberia for the Middle East, South East Asia, and Pakistan from the federal cabinet and that he was immune from criminal prosecution as a diplomat in a domestic dispute.
Since 2019, Umar has served as the Republic of Liberia’s Ambassador-at-Large for the Middle East, South East Asia, and Pakistan region while residing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he has lived for the past 20 years.
Additionally, Umar said that the two senior officers of the FIA were complicit in the plot against him. The officers are charged with fabricating information about Umar that connected him to criminal activity and a gang.
“That Shehzad Akbar, Sofia Mirza and Sanaullah Abbasi (EX DG FIA) with criminal intent and consultation with each other got registered FIR No. 36/20 and 40/20 in FIA CCC Lahore and Shehzad Akbar and Sanaullah Abbasi with criminal intent by misusing their position and authority pressurized the investigation officers of the case […] to prepare a forged and fabricated warrant of arrest of the applicant [to] enable them to get Red warrant from Interpol,” the FIR reads.
“They further prepared a fake warrant of arrest and order of the court after consultation with each other with criminal intent and prepared another fake non-bailable warrant of arrest,” the application read.
According to Umar’s police station application, the accused “prepared false, fabricated, and forged documents in the name of the honourable court and judge and used the same as the original one on the instructions and will of Abbasi to mislead the Supreme Court a fake, false, and fabricated report — dated January 1, 2022 — was prepared.”
Umar asked the police station to file a report against the suspects for fabricating and preparing fake documents, including “forging the signature and stamp of a judge, using forged documents as original ones, purposefully preparing a fabricated report for the Supreme Court on the basis of forged documents, and misusing the authority with criminal intent by breaching the trust of public office which was entrusted.”

In March 2020, Umar’s ex-wife Sophia asked the FIA’s Lahore branch to file cases of money laundering and corruption against him in order to have him included to the Interpol database.
