When Wayne got home from work on February 23, 1987, he found that Priscilla’s friend had damaged his automobile because the friend had borrowed it and wrecked on an icy road.
He allegedly lost control of his temper, started assaulting his wife, and threatened to murder her and hurt their child.
“The baby’s crying and it’s scary and he’s got a knife,” Mary recalled, via A&E True Crime.
“I’m going to watch this man murder my brother,” she thought.
After a while, Wayne, then 29, fell asleep, which was when Priscilla gave her 11-year-old daughter a gun.
She asked her to shoot her stepfather so that they no longer had to live in fear.
“You have to, Mary. He’s going to kill me. And if he kills me—what are you going to do?'” Priscilla told Mary, who had been begging her mom not to make her do it.
“I certainly didn’t feel like I had a choice,” Mary said.
After two failed attempts, Mary fired the fatal bullet during the early hours of the morning.
After that, Priscilla called 911 to report what had happened, but she claimed to the authorities that she had shot him in self-defense.
She admitted to authorities that it had to be done under questioning, but she denied pressing the trigger.
“I didn’t shoot him,” she told police, via Investigation Discovery, “but I’m responsible.”
