Following the Seasiders’ 0-0 draw with Burnley, BLACKPOOL supporter Tony Johnson tragically passed away following an altercation between 15 football fans outside a pub.
Police discovered the 55-year-old outside the Manchester Pub on the Promenade in Blackpool with a severe head injury.
Before he was taken to the hospital for emergency care, officers performed CPR at the scene.
After suffering head injuries in the early hours of March 6, Mr. Johnson sadly passed away.
Who was Tony Johnson?
Tony was well-liked by the crowd and frequently accompanied the Tangerines to both home and away matches.
To help his partner and family, Blackpool supporters have set up a GoFundMe page.
Tony’s memorial fund has so far raised a staggering £14,219, and the sum is still growing.
In a statement, the football team claimed: “Blackpool FC was shocked and saddened to learn that Tony Johnson, a supporter, tragically passed away this morning.
“An open book of condolence will be available in the Moretti Lounge starting at 4 p.m., allowing fans to express their condolences for Tony.
“Tony’s family and friends are in everyone’s thoughts at the football club,” the statement reads.
On March 6, at 4 o’clock, Blackpool supporters gathered at the Stan Mortensen stand to lay flowers and honour a lifelong Seasider.
All members of the club’s staff, players, and supporters gathered to honour Tony.
