Sarah Inam, a 37-year-old Pakistani expat, married to senior journalist Ayaz Amir’s son Shahnawazt Amir hree months before Sarah was allegedly murdered by Shahnawaz.
Following a disagreement over a “family matter,” Shahnawaz is accused of killing Sarah at her home, a farmhouse in Islamabad’s Chak Shahzad neighbourhood. He confessed to killing Sarah after being arrested by the police as the main suspect in the slaying and claimed that he “thought” his wife was having an affair.
Who was Sara Inam?
Successful Canadian-born economist Sarah has held positions with USAID and Deloitte at various periods in her career.
According to friends and relatives, she held a master’s degree from the University of Waterloo and was currently engaged in the government sector in the United Arab Emirates.
Sarah was described as a “voracious reader and thinker” who was genuinely interested in her job, history, and religion by one of her friends and a coworker.
She was brilliant economist & working with an international firm. She was a Canadian national. Her parents settle in Dallas, USA. Two brothers were settled in Canada.
According to the FIR, Shahnawaz confessed to striking his wife repeatedly with a dumbbell during an argument and then concealing the Canadian national’s body in the bathtub once the police had Shahnawaz.
‘Kindest, smartest, gentlest’
A day after Sarah passed away, her friend Stephen Nash wrote a moving letter in which he described her as “a shining light in this world, just the nicest, wisest, and gentlest person.”
“She [Sarah] had such sweet innocence and naivety and that’s now been taken away by the actions of a cruel man. It’s unfathomable,” he wrote on a widely-circulated Facebook post.
According to Nash, Sarah had pals from Pakistan, Canada, the UAE, and other countries all over the world.

Case
Shahnawaz killed Sara Bibi, Ayaz Amir’s daughter-in-law, in the Chak Shehzad neighbourhood of Islamabad.
On Friday, police filed a first information report (FIR) in response to Station House Officer (SHO) Nawazish Ali Khan’s complaint under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (which deals with penalty for murder) (PPC).
The suspect’s mother, Samina Shah, reportedly called the police on Friday, September 23, to report that her son, Shahnawaz, had killed his wife with a dumbbell. This information was included in the FIR.
The FIR states that Shah informed the police that her son was present and had covered his wife’s body. The cops then searched the residence.
According to the police complaint, Shahnawaz had locked himself in his room and when the staff broke down the door, they found blood stains on his hands and clothing.

The 37-year-old Sara was discovered dead this morning at a farmhouse in Islamabad where she resided. Her 37-year-old husband is the main suspect in the crime, according to the police, who claim that she was murdered with a dumbbell.
