A Massachusetts man named Pablo Vicente was taken into custody and charged with murder in relation to the disappearance of his partner Nayeli Nieves. Authorities claim Vicente pleaded not guilty during his hearing in Salem District Court on Tuesday.
Nayeli Nieves, who was she?
20-year-old Salem resident Nayeli Nieves was killed by her boyfriend, Pablo Vicente. In addition, she was a mother to a three-year-old and a nine-month-old.
According to a police report, Vicente admitted to officers that he had strangled Nieves in her Pope Street apartment after a dispute over her phone. He charged her with infidelity.
Vicente is accused of telling detectives that she choked the 20-year-old in front of her children. After that, he lived with the kids and the corpse for three days. Vicente claimed that after Nayeli’s body became “stinky,” he wrapped her up and dumped her remains in a trash can.
According to court documents, Vicente was seen leaving the apartment on Monday morning at around 4:00 a.m. when police reviewed surveillance footage from the apartment building. He was carrying a dolly and a human-sized object that was taped and bagged in the garbage.
Reports state that Vicente had a history of attacking Nieves. According to Nieves’s family, he was even the subject of a restraining order when he was accused of domestic violence against Nayeli in 2019. One of Vicente’s relatives allegedly told a Lynn police investigator that Vicente had murdered Nieves over the phone, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office. The Salem Police Department was then contacted by the Lynn police detective.
Both children are now under the supervision of the Department of Children and Families. However, the victim’s family insists that they will fight to get the kids back.
