Natise Johnson, age 21, was shot and killed inside her Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, home in March 1999 by Kareem Sampson, the ex-fiance of her brother’s then-girlfriend Crystal Mack. Natise Johnson lived with her father. The woman who passed away at the time was nine months pregnant, and her unborn child passed away around 20 minutes after the incident.
According to an inquiry, Johnson’s middle school classmate Sampson had been pestering her to learn more about her brother’s relationship with Mack before the terrible murder.
Sampson was convicted guilty of two first-degree murder charges in connection with the deaths of Natise and her unborn child. He received two consecutive sentences of life in prison without the chance of parole.
The heartbreaking killings of the expectant mother and her unborn child will be revisited in Homicide City on ID. The Nine Months Murdered episode will be shown on Tuesday, January 10, at 7:00 PM ET. The synopsis is as follows:
“After expectant mother Natise Johnson is found murdered days before she is due to give birth to her first child, Philadelphia detectives focus on those closest to her but soon find Johnson’s life is much more complicated than anyone ever knew.”
Natise Johnson, who was 21 years old at the time and nine months pregnant, lived with her father in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on March 27, 1999, while the child’s real father was serving in the Navy in Virginia.
That fateful evening, when the victim’s father got home from work, he found her dead in the kitchen. She received four headshot wounds. Examination results showed that her unborn child perished from oxygen deprivation about 20 minutes after the incident. No signs of a break-in or robbery could be found, indicating that the victim knew the murderer.
Johnson’s phone records showed that she was getting calls from the same number often, and it was later established that this was Kareem Sampson, who she had known since middle school. The two were also close friends with Crystal Mack, who had once been Sampson’s girlfriend but was at the time of the shooting seeing the victim’s brother.
Previously, Sampson and Mack were set to wed and even had kids together. But after they split up and he left, she started dating Johnson’s brother. Because of this, the accused pestered the victim to reveal their new relationship in the days before she passed away.
According to sources, Kareem Sampson called Natise Johnson once more on March 27, 1999, to ask about her brother’s relationship with Crystal Mack. He visited her home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at 5428 Lansdowne Avenue after being unsatisfied with her responses. She opened the door for him, not knowing what would happen, and they began talking in the living room.
Sampson was angry by the scenario and Johnson’s responses, and he demanded that she tell him where her brother and Mack were by pointing his rifle at her head. She again declined to respond to his questions. The pregnant woman and her unborn kid were both killed when he then fired four shots at her head.
After a jury trial, Kareem Sampson was found guilty in 2000 of two charges of first-degree murdering Natise Johnson and her unborn child. He received two consecutive life terms in jail without the chance of release after becoming the first person in Philadelphia to be accused with killing a foetus.
