MARTINE Vik Magnussen was celebrating successful exam results in Mayfair in 2008 when she was brutally murdered.
Here, we look at how she died and the latest developments in the case.
Who was Martine Vik Magnussen?
Martine Vik Magnussen was a business student from Norway who attended Regent’s Business School in London.
She was discovered dead on March 16, 2008, after her friends reported her missing the day before.
Martine was unlawfully killed, according to an inquest held at Westminster coroner’s court on November 24, 2010.
Odd Petter Magnussen, her father, has worked tirelessly for justice since his daughter’s death.
What happened to Martine?
Martine was murdered on March 14, 2008, after a night out at the Maddox Club in Mayfair.
She was ecstatic about finishing first in her class in her most recent exam results.
On March 16, 2008, she was discovered hidden beneath a pile of rubble in the basement of an apartment building on Great Portland Street in London.
She had been strangled to death, and further examinations revealed that she had been raped.
A number of her belongings, including her earrings and shoes, are still missing from the outfit she was wearing the night she died.
CCTV footage from the night in question shows her leaving the club around 2 a.m. with Farouk Abdulhak, a fellow Regent’s Business School student.
Abdulhak is the son of a Yemeni billionaire and a former boyfriend of Martine, with whom he shared a taxi.
He flew out of the country shortly after the incident, first to Egypt and then to Yemen.
According to police, he is the only suspect in the case and has been asked to return to the UK for questioning.
Other people have been detained on suspicion of assisting in the murder, including a woman in her 60s who was arrested on March 8, 2022.
This was hailed as a significant breakthrough in the case’s pursuit of answers.
