“He was quite simply a national treasure. People loved him. He was mobbed everywhere he went.
In 1948, Leslie wed the actress Penelope Bartley, and the couple went on to have two boys and two daughters.
After divorcing in 1965, the couple remained in contact until she died in a house fire in 1981.
He married Bond girl Angela Scoular the next year.
Five years before to their relationship, she was expecting another man’s son, who Leslie raised as his own.
Then tragedy struck once more in April 2011.
To treat her terminal bowel cancer, his wife Angela—whom he initially met on the set of Carry on Nurse—took a fatal concoction of medications and booze.
After being flown to the hospital, Angela passed away the following day.
Zara Carr, a close family friend, comforted Leslie and assisted him in processing Angela’s passing.
Later, he made a marriage proposal to Zara, who was 30 years younger than him. They were married in 2013 and stayed so until his passing.
