A respected doctor named Krystal Cascetta was discovered dead in her house on August 5, 2023, along with her months-old child.
Authorities suspect their deaths were the consequence of a murder-suicide.
Who was Krystal Cascetta?
Dr. Krystal Cascetta, 40, worked as an assistant professor of medicine in the hematology and medical oncology department at Mount Sinai’s Icahn School of Medicine.
She was also the site chief at the Mount Sinai Queens Infusion Center, which treats cancer and blood diseases patients.
Cascetta’s official bio stated that she was a “active investigator of breast cancer clinical trials.”
Her clinical practice mostly involved the treatment of breast cancer, gynecologic cancer, sarcoma, and gastrointestinal malignancies.
Cascetta attended Albany Medical College and was a member of its Gold Humanism Honor Society.

Dr. Cascetta and her infant were discovered dead in their Somers, New York home on Saturday, August 5, 2023.
Their injuries, according to New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Somers, are “consistent with a murder/suicide.”
Cascetta is suspected of shooting her female newborn and then herself.
“A preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 7:00 a.m., Krystal Cascetta entered her child’s room and shot her baby and then turned the gun on herself,” the police said in a statement.
The police also told The Journal News/lohud that Cascetta’s husband, Tim Talty, was away when the incident occurred, but her parents were reportedly in the house at the time.
The age of the infant remains undisclosed, but according to an online registry created by Cascetta and Talty, the baby had a due date of March 17, 2023, making her four and a half months old at the time of her death.
Who was Krystal Cascetta’s husband, Tim Talty?
Tim Talty, Cascetta’s spouse, is an entrepreneur who developed Talty Bar, a company that offers protein bars.
Since 2019, the couple had been married.
Cascetta herself has endorsed the product, according to one of Talty Bar’s blog articles.
“The people closest to Krystal will tell you that being a doctor is in her DNA. Krystal, herself, will tell you that she has wanted to be a doctor for as long as she can remember; that even as a child she could be found wrapping her dolls in gauze,” the blog read.
“When Krystal was in 8th grade, her mother’s best friend passed away from breast cancer. It was this life-altering event that helped Krystal decide that Medical Oncology would be her specialty.”
Not much else is known about Talty, but per his LinkedIn page, he was a private chef prior to setting up his own company. He also worked as a cook for Tørst and Gramercy Park Hotel.
