The children of the EMMY Award-winning actress Kirstie Alley announced her passing on her Instagram on Monday, December 5, 2022.
After a brief battle with cancer, the actress and comedian passed away, shocking many of her friends and admirers.
Who was Kirstie Alley?
Kristie Alley made her acting debut in the popular NBC sitcom Cheers as Rebecca Howe.
In NBC’s “must-see TV” schedule on most Thursday nights from the late 1980s through the early 1990s, Alley could be seen on Cheers.
One of the most famous characters in the annals of early sitcom history was played by her as a cool-girl-turned-neurotic bartender who fell in and out of love with various bar patrons, Boston millionaires, and the bar’s manager, Sam.
In 1991, she won a Golden Globe and an Emmy for her work on Cheers.
How did she die?
Kirstie Alley passed away from cancer, which her family acknowledged was the actress’s most recent health problem.
Alley passed away at the age of 71.
At the time of her passing, she was receiving medical care at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida.
True and Lillie Parker, her kids, wrote the following on Alley’s Instagram:
“We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered,”
“As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”
