When an informant was discovered dead after being shot, a STING operation became a crime scene.
Jorge Ramirez, who was involved in the police’s undercover probe, was killed in the gunfight.
Who was Jorge Ramirez?
Jorge Ramirez, a California resident from Bakersfield who was shot and lost his life on January 17, 1979, was a father of five.
A compassionate and caring man, as well as a loving father, son, and brother, is how Jorge is remembered by his loved ones.
He was a part of an undercover police operation before he passed away.
At that time, police opened an investigation on Justin Harger, a friend of Jorge’s.
Cops presented Jorge with a deal because Harger was a wanted felon.
Legal representatives agreed to postpone Jorge’s preliminary hearing for his ongoing drug trial in exchange for his cooperation.
What happened to Jorge?
On September 16, 2013, after a shooting between Harger and the police started, Jorge was shot and murdered.
Local officials asked Jorge to arrange a hangout with Harger and himself the evening of the shooting.
Police surrounded the car Harger was driving later that night.
Harger and Jorge were both declared dead from gunshot wounds during the shootout.
There are contradictory reports of what happened after that time.
Jorge was not a subject of the Bakersfield Police Department’s inquiry, they said.
They asserted that no agreement had been reached about Jorge’s cooperation, his drug case, or the arrest of Harger.
Jorge’s family, however, disputes the Bakersfield PD’s assertions and maintains that they used his participation in their investigation to cover up Jorge’s death as justification.
“My son was killed in a way no one deserves,” his father told Bakersfield.
“This is why we are without our son today, their negligence.”
His sister Nicole added: “He was helping the police, they should have protected him. He was not a suspect.”
How to watch Killing County?
The Hulu documentary series Killing County examines the circumstances of Jorge Ramirez’s death.
The documentary special, which Colin Kaepernick, a former player for the San Francisco 49ers, produced, examines allegations of police corruption in Bakersfield.
On February 3, 2023, Killing County will be made available on the aforementioned platform.
The three-part programme discusses Jorge’s assistance as well as the alleged cover-ups orchestrated by the local police.
