Jeffrey Dahmer, a serial killer, killed 17 people between 1978 and 1991, including older men and teenage boys (per Biography). According to Britannica, he especially targeted LGBT minorities in Milwaukee, including African Americans. Nevertheless, Dahmer became notorious for doing post-mortem procedures on the bodies of his victims. According to the Crime Museum, he engaged in cannibalism and necrophilia. He also subjected his victims to horrifying scientific tests. By the time Dahmer was finally apprehended in February 1992, he had already been given 15 consecutive life sentences, according to history. However, Dahmer’s stay in jail was just temporary. He was killed at the Columbia Correctional Institute on November 28, 1994, by Christopher Scarver, another prisoner.
According to AP News, Anderson alleged that on April 21, 1992, two Black men attacked him and his wife at random in a restaurant parking lot. Anderson was stabbed four times in the chest, but according to UPI, Barbara had been stabbed a total of 21 times. Barbara was 33 when she eventually passed away from her wounds. According to The New York Times, Anderson admitted to investigators that he had made vain attempts to defend his wife. There were no eyewitnesses to the assault, though, and all that was left was a Los Angeles Clippers hat. A young man soon came forward to claim that Anderson had purchased the cap from him.
According to UPI, Barbara was stabbed with a fishing knife with a red handle. Anderson had previously purchased a knife matching this description, it was later revealed. Days after being discharged from the hospital, Anderson was arrested (via AP News). He was then accused of killing Barbara Anderson. Police reportedly never believed Anderson’s account of the Black guys, according to The New York Times. They even thought he had stabbed himself on purpose to conceal his guilt.
According to The U.S. Sun, Anderson was found guilty and given a life sentence. A reason wasn’t stated during the trial (per The New York Times). According to AP News, Anderson is believed to have murdered his wife in order to obtain her life insurance policy. Only a few days before murdering her, he modified her claim.
History claims that Anderson was sentenced to prison at the Columbia Correctional Institute in Portage, Wisconsin, just like Dahmer. Dahmer, Anderson, and Scarver were given instructions to clean a restroom in the prison gym on the day of their deaths. According to Radio Times, the three males were left unattended. Scarver used this chance to execute Dahmer and Anderson by striking them with a 20-inch iron bar. Scarver then returned to his cell, as reported by the Associated Press (via Virginia Tech), but a guard noticed him and questioned him about returning so early. God instructed me to do it, he retorted. It will be covered on the news at six o’clock. Jeffrey Dahmer and Jesse Anderson have passed away.
The Associated Press reports that Dahmer and Anderson were both brought to a hospital. But Dahmer passed away in transit. According to Radio Times, Anderson was placed on life support but passed away two days later. Later, Scarver said that before attacking the two murderers, he had removed the iron bar from the gym and concealed it in his leg.
Scarver gave the New York Post an interview in 2015 in which he explained why he killed Anderson. He expressed his outrage at Anderson for lying about his wife being killed by two Black guys in an interview with the publication. Additionally, Anderson allegedly damaged a painting of Martin Luther King Jr., according to Scarver. In a similar vein, Scarver said in a different interview with the New York Post that he had slain Dahmer because of his abhorrent deeds. History records that Scarver was given an additional life term for the deaths of Dahmer and Anderson.
