Who was Jason Cantrell?
An attorney named Jason Cantrell practiced law out of his office in Louisiana. Family law, civil law, and criminal law are the areas of expertise of The Cantrell Law Firm.
Additionally, the firm represents clients in cases involving domestic abuse, divorce, child custody, contract violations, and trust disagreements.
Jason married LaToya Cantrell, née Wilder, who would later become the mayor of New Orleans, on September 4, 1999.
Jason’s passing was made public by Mayor Cantrell’s office on August 14, 2023.
They said, “We announce the passing of First Gentleman Jason Cantrell with deep sorrow and heartbreak.”
“He was a devoted husband and father as well as a committed public servant who bravely served the citizens of this city as a skilled family, civil, and criminal attorney in addition to working side by side with Mayor Cantrell.”
“The legal profession, his loved ones, and the entire city of New Orleans will always remember and cherish First Gentleman Cantrell.”
“Mayor Cantrell, his wife RayAnn, and the Cantrell family are still in our thoughts and prayers.”
“May he find eternal peace with God,” they added.
“During this difficult time, we ask that you please respect their privacy.”
RayAnn, Jason’s daughter, and his wife LaToya are still alive.
LaToya Cantrell was elected mayor when?
After LaToya was chosen to serve as the city’s mayor, Jason was appointed as the First Gentleman of New Orleans on May 7, 2018.
On November 11, 2021, she defeated Vina Nguyen, a Republican challenger, and won reelection with a majority of the vote.
“I know that in service it is not about self, it is about the city of New Orleans and her people that make her so special,” LaToya said in her second victory speech,” according to the crowd.
“It is up to us to make sure that the cultural capital of the United States of America continues to thrive, not just for this country but for the rest of the world. This city has shown resilience for more than 300 years. That’s where we live.”
“We’re going to play to our strengths and ignore the doubters because we’re focused on doing the work and achieving results that we can be proud of in 40 and 50 years, so our city’s future is bright.”
“The future of the city is at stake in this. Since I am the current mayor, we are not looking for a replacement.”
