On January 21, 2023, tragedy hit Monterey Park, California after a shooter entered a well-liked dance club.
Ten individuals were killed in the shooting before the culprit, Huu Can Tran, shot himself to death the following morning.
Less than 24 hours after the incident in Monterey Park, Huu Can Tran, 72, was named as the suspect by law authorities.
According to the Los Angeles Times, he allegedly opened fire on a throng inside Star Dance Studio at around 10.20 p.m., killing 10 people and injured another 10.
The shooter allegedly tried to reopen fire at a different club, but heroic onlookers stopped the attack.
He allegedly fled but stopped in a hospital to have his injuries examined before departing without receiving medical attention.
According to reports, the man was apprehended after Torrance police recognised his white van.
Tran reportedly turned into a parking lot as they attempted to pull him over, and as the cops tried to approach the car, Tran reportedly shot himself to death.
Robert Luna, the sheriff of Los Angeles County, revealed Tran’s identify during a press conference, but he withheld his motivation.
When the police approached Tran, Luna revealed that he had committed suicide.
“I still have questions in my mind, which is: What was the motive for this shooter? Did he have a mental illness? Was he a domestic violence abuser? How did he gets these guns and was it through legal means or not?” Congresswoman Judy Chu said.
Information about Tran’s private life has not yet been made public.
What was Huu Can Tran’s cause of death?
According to CBS News, police encircled Tran’s white van with cops wearing tactical gear and armour during a standoff in the Torrance neighbourhood of California.
They located the suspect dead from a self-inflicted wound shortly after hearing one gunshot from inside the car.
Police verified that the neighbourhood is now safe during the news conference and claimed there are no unsolved suspects.
To celebrate Lunar New Year’s Eve, a number of people gathered at Star Dance Studio on West Garvey Avenue.
Sadly, several people were unable to return to their families.
The victims’ identities have not yet been made public, but according to the authorities, there were five males and five women among them.
In the upcoming days, more details about the victims are anticipated to be made public.
