In January 2018, Delbert Shafer, a Leetonia police officer, was discovered unconscious in his Ohio home. At the time, the authorities thought he had passed away naturally. A thorough postmortem report later indicated that his head had sustained inexplicable injuries consistent with blunt force trauma. The only suspect in the case was David Shafer, who was Shafer’s son at the time and was the first to notice that he wasn’t breathing. The autopsy results led to the determination that Shafer’s death was a homicide.
ID’s Evil Lives Here will examine Shafer’s beating by his son David on the upcoming episode. This Sunday, April 30, at 8:00 PM, the show, I Will Always Be Scared of Him, airs on the network.
David Shafer, Delbert Shafer’s son, discovered him motionless in his house on January 14, 2018. He worked as a policeman in Leetonia, Ohio. At first glance, Shafer’s death appeared to be the result of natural causes when it was pronounced dead at the scene. His death was attributed to blunt force trauma to his head, trunk, and extremities, according to an autopsy performed three days later.
David, his son, allegedly contacted his nurse buddy when he discovered his father to be unresponsive. He thought Delbert was fine since the nurse supposedly came over and checked him with a stethoscope. David admitted to the authorities that he had forgotten the name of the nurse.
According to reports, David was on parole in Pennsylvania. He had previously been found guilty of multiple burglaries, attempted burglaries, receiving stolen goods, and theft-related offences.
Authorities discovered after an investigation that Shafer was attacked by his son David, who then cleaned up the crime scene and left him to perish from his injuries rather than seeking for help.
In January 2021, David ultimately entered a guilty plea to voluntary manslaughter, possessing a firearm when unable to do so, and tampering with evidence. He received a 14-year prison term.
