A sheriff’s deputy in Texas was fatally shot while fulfilling his official duties on Friday night while responding to a report of a domestic conflict, according to officials.
According to the Eastland County Sheriff’s Office, deputy David Bosecker responded to a residence on Highway 183 between Cisco and Rising Star around 9:00 a.m.
Bosecker was the first to arrive and was immediately attacked by the suspect. According to the sheriff’s office, the deputy was shot and killed as a result. The perpetrator was apprehended by further responding deputies before anyone else was wounded. The defendant, who was not identified in the sheriff’s press statement, was apprehended and charged with capital murder.
The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident. There was no more information about the shooting available at the time. A number of Texas law enforcement groups expressed their sympathies to Bosecker’s family and friends on social media.
Bosecker, a master peace officer, worked in law enforcement for more than 21 years, according to Eastland County Today. He began his career as a deputy in Wise County before joining the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
According to the publication, he then worked as a game warden for Texas Parks and Wildlife and a police officer for the Comanche Police Department. He also had a part-time job with the Cisco Police Department as a maritime enforcement officer.
