CAROLINE HOGG was only five years old when serial killer Robert Black brutally murdered her.
She was the youngest known victim of the paedophile killer.
Who was Robert Black victim Caroline Hogg?
Caroline Hogg, a five-year-old schoolgirl, vanished from outside her home.
On the day she went missing, the small girl had gone to a friend’s birthday party.
She never returned home after telling her parents she was going out to play one evening.
Where did Caroline Hogg live?
Caroline lived in Portobello, Edinburgh, with her family.
The beach-loving coastal suburb is three miles east of the city center of Scotland’s capital.
What happened to Caroline Hogg?
Caroline vanished when she was five years old from near her house on Beach Lane.
The small girl went out to play on Portobello Promenade on July 8, 1983, telling her parents Annette and John Hogg that she would be home shortly.
They simply asked her to leave for five minutes, but she never returned.
Caroline’s body was discovered in a ditch off the M1 in Leicestershire ten days after she vanished.
Caroline was last seen on the merry-go-round at Portobello’s Fun City amusement.
She was observed going away with a “scruffy-looking” male when it stopped.
Children who had been playing with Caroline before she walked to the promenade reported seeing a man “in need of a shave” watching them play at the neighboring Towerbank School.
Another young witness claimed to have seen a “weird man” who walked away from Caroline before she vanished.
Caroline’s family has now stated that their daughter was constantly warned about “bad men” prior to her abduction.
Her father said in a statement at Black’s trial: ”I can only think she had been enticed away by someone who had been able to gain her trust because in normal circumstances she would not have gone away with someone she did not know.”
When Caroline’s body was discovered, investigators connected her death to the murder of Susan Maxwell, who had been slain a year before.Susan, who was 11 at the time of her death, went missing near her family’s house in Cornhill-on-Tweed.
Her body was discovered more than 200 kilometers away, at Uttoxer.
When Robert Black was jailed in 1990 for attempting to murder another schoolgirl, investigators began to connect his heinous deeds.
In May 1994, he was found guilty of the murders of Caroline, Susan, and another teenager, Sarah Harper.
Black was also convicted of murdering Jennifer Cardy in 2011, 30 years after her death in 1981.
Black, the evil serial killer, died in jail in 2016 after receiving 12 life sentences.
Many more young girls are suspected to have died as a result of his actions, however he was never formally charged with more than four murders.
