The 1979 death of CAROL Lannen led to a massive manhunt in Scotland.
Police discovered evidence, but they were unable to ascertain what happened or who killed her. How much do we actually know about Carol Lannen?
Who was Carol Lannen?
At the time of her disappearance, Carol Lannen was a part-time prostitute who lived in Dundee.
She had a three-month-old kid named Derek and was 18 years old at the time.
How she was killed?
On Exchange Street, which is regarded as the city’s red light district, she was last spotted getting into a red automobile.
On March 21, 1979, her body was discovered in Templeton Woods in Dundee.
About 11 months had passed since Elizabeth McCabe, whose body was located only 150 yards from the scene, had passed away.
Due to the parallels between the deaths, when McCabe was killed less than a year later in almost the same location, people began to speculate that a serial murderer was at large.
On April 1, 1979, garments and a black purse that had washed up on the bank of the River Don in Aberdeenshire were discovered.
There was a purse with cash and cards inside the bag.
The book was probably for Lannen’s little boy, and the bag belonged to her.
In 2004, the probe into the deaths of Lannen and McCabe was reopened.
Norman, her father, was unaware that she had passed away until 2005, when Bradford, Yorkshire, police inquired about fresh information.
Before the murder, Mr. Lannen severed his ties to his family, so when he learned of her death, he was startled.
Who has been charged with Carol Lannen’s murder?
Over 40 years after Lannen’s murder, no one has been put on trial.
Numerous case evaluations have been conducted since Carol and Elizabeth’s deaths, but none of them have produced any new information or suspects.
Although there were no intentions to revive the case, a senior investigator on the case told STV news in 2020 that the murder could yet be solved.
