In March 1993, the shocking homicide of Carol Clark sparked a significant police probe.
But in 2023, the matter was revived after 30 years of inactivity. What is known about the case’s events is listed below.
Who was Carol Clark?
In March 1993, a 32-year-old lady named Carol Clark was abducted in Bristol.
Two days later, she was discovered deceased, leading to a thorough police probe.
Over 500 witness testimonies were collected, but the matter still wasn’t resolved.
30 years after her corpse was discovered, on March 28, 2023, Gloucestershire Police announced that they were reopening the probe.
On March 26, 1993, Carol was last spotted in Bristol getting into a vehicle.
A dog owner discovered her body in weeds and vegetation close to the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal two days later.
She had been strangled and had a fractured neck, it was subsequently discovered.
As they interrogate the subject, they have continued their request for information.
On April 4, 2023, police reported that a 66-year-old male had been detained in relation to her slaying.
A spokesperson for the Gloucestershire police said: “A 66-year-old man from Gloucestershire was arrested today, Tuesday 4 April, on suspicion of the murder of Carol Clark.”
DCI Wayne Usher said after the arrest: “I have received new and significant information about this case and while I cannot say more at the moment without putting inquiries at risk, it is an encouraging development and one which has all my officers more determined than ever to find Carol’s murderer.
“But I still need the public’s help. Carol lived and worked in a very close-knit community, and it’s likely that some people with information about what happened to her remained silent, perhaps through fear or misplaced loyalty.
“In the time that’s passed since, allegiances and loyalties will have changed, though, so I’m asking those people to search their consciences once again, 30 years after her death, to look at her photo, to think about the impact this continues to have on her loved ones and help bring the culprit to justice.”
