Billy Chemirmir was accused of killing 22 elderly women despite his denials.
The murderer of Mary Brooks and Lu Thi Harris was killed while incarcerated for two life terms.
Who was Billy Chemirmir and what was he accused of?
Billy Chemirmir, a home health aide and murderer from Eldama Ravine, Kenya, was born on December 8, 1972.
Between the towns of Dallas, Plano, Frisco, and Addison in Texas, he lived out the last years of his life.
Police think he pretended to be a maintenance or health care worker while living in Texas in order to infiltrate many senior living facilities.
Chemirmir, according to the prosecution, used this pretext to target elderly residents’ houses and rob them of their jewelry.
Chemirmir was detained on March 20, 2018, after 91-year-old Mary Bartel survived a home invasion attack and detectives found his car at the crime scene.
They also discovered jewelry that belonged to the 81-year-old victim Lu Thi Harris on the day of his arrest.
Chemirmir was facing 11 counts of capital murder as of May 2019.
He was ultimately charged with the murder of a total of 22 elderly people.
Chermirmir denied all of the crimes he was charged with.
“I am 100 percent sure I will not go to prison, I am not a killer,” he told The Dallas Morning News.
“I’m not at all what they’re saying I am. I am a very innocent person.”
What was Chemirmir’s trial verdict?
Chemirmir was found guilty of murdering Lu Thi Harris to death on April 28, 2022.
He was convicted of the capital murder of the 87-year-old victim Mary Brooks on October 7 of that same year.He was given a life sentence in jail without the possibility of release for both crimes.
The children of Mary Brooks spoke to Chemirmir and the court in their impact statements.
“We are so thrilled that this defendant will never be able to hurt any other family again,” they said.
“Our beloved mother Mary Sue, her life is over and her jewelry is gone, but her love and her memories will live in us forever.
“You will now be caged like the vicious cowardly animal you are.”
In relation to the 20 additional alleged victims, Chemirmir’s charges were dismissed.
What was Chemirmir’s cause of death?
On September 19, 2023, a prisoner at the Coffield Unit of the Tennessee Colony in Anderson County, Texas, killed 50-year-old Chemirmir.
