Two deputies were slain on Thursday night while executing arrest warrants in a hamlet close to Marietta.
Deputies Jonathan Koleski and Marshall Ervin, Jr. perished while apprehending a man wanted for theft, according to Cobb County Sheriff Craig Owens.
On Friday, the suspects Christopher Cook and Christopher Golden appeared in court to hear their accusations. The two deputies were called to the house that evening after Cook was accused of the alleged theft. Aggravated assault on a police officer and homicide are each charged twice against Golden.
Law enforcement organisations across the state responded to the fatal incident. On Friday, the flags were at half-staff in front of the sheriff’s office visitor centre.
Who Marshall Ervin & Jonathan Koleski?
Koleski, according to Owens, joined the sheriff’s office in 2007 and is 42 years old. In 2012, Ervin Jr., a 38-year-old father of two, joined the sheriff’s department.
“They were outstanding men, men of character and integrity, family mem, loved by their family and kids,” the sheriff said.
Owens said he spoke to both deputies’ wives.
“They’re heartbroken, as we all are,” Owens said.
