All eyes are on the U.S. Women’s National Team as they attempt to win their third straight World Cup in Australia, and one player has already made headlines. Trinity Rodman, the daughter of renowned NBA player Dennis Rodman, made her World Cup debut in the U.S. team’s game against Vietnam and significantly contributed to the team’s commanding 3-0 victory.
Trinity Rodman: Who is she?
American professional soccer player Trinity Rain Moyer-Rodman plays for the Washington Spirit in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and for the women’s national soccer team of the United States. Her birthday is May 20, 2002.
Trinity made history in the 2021 NWSL College Draft by being selected in the second round at the age of 18, making her the youngest player ever selected. She won numerous awards after her first season in 2021, including the U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year, NWSL Rookie of the Year, and NWSL Best XI. Notably, as of February 2022, she also rose to the position of the highest-paid player in the league.
Michelle Moyer and Dennis Rodman, both former NBA players, welcomed their daughter Trinity to the world in Newport Beach, California. She is also Alexis Rodman’s half-sister and was raised in Southern California primarily by her mother and her brother, DJ Rodman.
She developed a passion for soccer at the young age of four and quickly identified with the game. Trinity pursued her dream of becoming a professional soccer player with the help of her mother and sister.
She joined the SoCal Blues at the age of ten, and over the course of five years in the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL), her team went undefeated and won four national championships.
Trinity spent her freshman year at Corona del Mar High School before transferring to JSerra Catholic High School in nearby San Juan Capistrano, where she did not participate on the varsity team.
Trinity was selected first overall by the Washington Spirit in the 2021 NWSL College Draft, making her the league’s youngest player ever selected. She had never been to Washington, DC before.
On April 10, 2021, Trinity made her professional debut during a 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup game, scoring just five minutes after entering the game. She showed off during the Spirit’s four Challenge Cup games, contributing to Ashley Sanchez’s game-winning goal against Racing Louisville FC on April 15 by giving him an assist. With a 1-2-1 record and a fourth-place finish in the East Division, The Spirit finished the Challenge Cup.
Trinity was named the NWSL Rookie of the Year and was selected for the NWSL Best XI on November 17, 2021, in recognition of her outstanding performances. She received U.S. Soccer’s Young Female Player of the Year award in December of that same year. Trinity’s contract with the Washington Spirit was extended on February 2, 2022, through the end of the 2024 season, with a 2025 option. She reportedly signed a new contract for $1.1 million, cementing her status as the highest-paid player in NWSL history.
