A private in the United States Army has been accused of deserting after entering North Korea across the demilitarized zone.
The soldier’s mother disputes the accusations leveled against him, asserting that her son is a “good boy” and that he is “not like that.”

After being freed from a South Korean prison, he entered North Korea without permission in July 2023 and was apprehended by North Korean military.
The New York Times stated that King “willfully and without authorization crossed the Military Demarcation Line into the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.”
After being under American captivity for two months, the soldier was brought to a medical facility in San Antonio, Texas, for assessments.
Subsequently, Reuters reports, he was accused of other offenses, including violence, desertion, and possession of child pornography.
His situation is unknown, however it is said that he is being held in El Paso, Texas, in pre-trial detention.
