What accusations were made against Tony Robbins?
The Robbins investigation was reported in May 2019 by a source. In the six-part article series, Robbins was accused of sexual misconduct by both fans and former coworkers.
The alleged incidents were all said to have occurred between the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s.
Two accusers claimed that Robbins pursued them after they rejected him, and two more claimed that they were required to work alone with him while he was in his hotel room naked.
One woman alleged that she lost her job as a result of engaging in a consensual sexual relationship with the self-help tycoon.
Robbins was accused of groping, exposing himself, or sexually harassing ten different women.
Two former bodyguards claimed they were sent out to find attractive women for Tony in his audiences, and the report also claimed that Robbins reprimanded rape and domestic violence, victims.
In an open letter to Buzzfeed, Robbins addressed the allegations.
“Let me be clear, while my open-classroom therapeutic techniques are not for everyone, and while I am still only a flawed human being even on my best day,” he said.
“The erroneous, unfounded, and incendiary allegations suggested by BuzzFeed story-tellers are false and unfounded, and I have never behaved in the reckless, irresponsible, or malicious manner suggested by them.”
Robbins was then charged with molesting a teenage girl by BuzzFeed News in November 2019—just a few short months later.
The story went that Tony was a “star speaker” at a California summer camp in 1985 when the incident happened.
In November 2019, Robbins filed a defamation lawsuit against Buzzfeed UK in an Irish court.
Paul Tweed, Tony’s attorney, stated at the time that they also intended to file a defamation lawsuit against Twitter for publishing tweets promoting the Buzzfeed articles.
At the time of writing, the case was still pending in Irish courts.
