Nearly as important as Carlos Vela’s soccer career is his love life.
The 33-year-old Mexican is a star of Major League Soccer and one of his nation’s greatest players in history.
Vela will play for Los Angeles FC for a fifth season and has played 72 times for Mexico.
He began his soccer career in Europe, where he eventually rose through Arsenal’s youth ranks.
His life was permanently changed when he crossed paths with Saioa Canibano in Spain.
From 2011 to 2018, Vela was a member of Real Sociedad, a team from the Basque Country in the north.
Saioa was a reporter for a nearby news source when he first met her.
It is unknown when the couple first started dating because they kept their relationship a secret.
However, they went public shortly after the birth of their first child, Romeo, in 2016.
Just prior to Vela’s trip to the World Cup in Russia in 2018, Saioa’s life underwent a radical change.
The wedding took place just before the competition.
And they moved from the western coast of the US to the northern shore of Spain.
Now living together in Los Angeles, the couple has two kids.
Saioa is concentrated on taking care of the kids and helping her husband, who is nearing the end of a distinguished soccer career.
