PRINCE Harry took part in a live discussion about trauma and healing.

Gabor Maté, a well-known doctor and author, was the person he was speaking with. Here, we look at his background and what he said during the interview.

Who is Dr. Gabor Maté?

Gabor Maté is a Hungarian-Canadian author and physician.

He has a background in family practise and a particular interest in childhood development, trauma, and the potential long-term effects on physical and mental health.

Gabor Maté is a best-selling author who has written several books on various aspects of psychology, including trauma.

In The Realm Of Hungry Ghosts, his book about addiction, won the Hubert Evans Prize for literary non-fiction.

He spent over a decade working with patients suffering from drug addiction and mental illness in Vancouver’s Downtown East Side.

Maté emphasises the role of pathology’s biopsychosocial aspects, as well as psychological trauma and stress.

He emphasises the significance of relationships and social attachment in learning and health. His ideas align with the trauma-informed care framework.

In a candid interview, trauma expert Maté diagnosed Prince Harry with Attention Deficit Disorder.

On Saturday, March 4, 2023, the interview was part of a livestream event about trauma and healing.

The conversation cost £17 to watch and came with a hardback copy of Harry’s memoir, Spare.

Maté stated that he reached this conclusion after reading Harry’s explosive book.

“Reading the book, I diagnose you with ADD, I see it as a normal response to normal stress, not a disease,” he told the Duke of Sussex.

Dr. Maté said Harry felt “incredibly free” after releasing his book.

He said: “I certainly have felt throughout my life, felt slightly different to the rest of my family.

“When the book came out I felt incredibly free.”

Maté has released two books on ADD, including Scattered Minds: A New Look at the Origins and Healing of Attention Deficit Disorder, in 1999.
