If a public parole hearing in March 2023 goes his way, CHARLES BRONSON could be released.
Bronson was sentenced to life in prison in 2000 for holding a prisoner hostage, but what do we know about the man he attacked?
Who is Phil Danielson?
Phil Danielson, a prison art instructor, was kidnapped by notorious inmate Charles Bronson.
The heinous attack, which lasted 43 hours, occurred in Hull Prison in 1999.
The Home Office awarded Danielson £65,000 in compensation.
Bronson stabbed and beat Danielson during the hostage situation in 1999.
The man dubbed “Britain’s most notorious prisoner” tied him up with a skipping rope and dragged him around at knifepoint.
Bronson was sentenced to life in prison with a three-year minimum term for the attack, but he has been denied parole since, meaning he has now served 24 years.
Danielson has PTSD and acute anxiety disorders as a result of the beating and has been unable to work since the attack.
Danielson, from Huddersfield, was so traumatised by the ordeal that he had panic attacks just driving past the prison.
Danielson discussed the incident in the Channel 4 documentary Bronson: Fit To Be Free?, which premiered on February 27, 2023.
He said “Bronson burst into the room, grabbed me by the throat and punched me in the face.
“He stabbed me in the leg and told me “Take your last breath. You’re going to die.”
Danielson added: “The damage caused by him has moulded my whole life.
“It’ll be with me for the rest of my life.”
He went on to say that he believes Bronson should express regret for the crimes he committed.
“I think he needs to show remorse, and it needs to be documented remorse, not clever talk to get in the papers,” he said.
Bronson has admitted that Danielson did not deserve the brutal treatment he gave him.
