Career
Harry Peter “Bud” Grant Jr. was born on May 20, 1927. He was a former American football, Canadian football, and National Basketball Association head coach and player (NBA). Grant led the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League (NFL) to four Super Bowl appearances, 11 division victories, one league championship, and three NFC championships in 18 seasons. He served as the team’s second (1968-1983) and fourth (1985) head coach.
He was the head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for ten seasons, leading them to four Grey Cup victories before becoming the Vikings’ head coach. Grant is the most successful head coach in Vikings history, having won 286 games in the NFL and CFL.
Grant was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1983 and the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1994. Marv Levy was the first coach to lead a team to both the Grey Cup and the Super Bowl.
