In connection with the 2016 disappearance of Morgan Bauer, neighborhood law enforcement officers, and the FBI searched a home on South Broad Street in Porterdale, Newton County, on Thursday.
The search was allegedly initiated by new information that the authorities received, but they were unable to provide any additional details. Porterdale Police Sgt. Michael Walden revealed the news at a press conference, saying that “the search warrant was obtained based on credible information and evidence gathered during this investigation.”
In Porterdale, the operation is happening at 2 South Broad St. No one is currently being detained, and the current owners of the property are assisting the investigation.
Morgan Bauer: Who is she?
A 19-year-old woman named Morgan Bauer vanished in Atlanta in 2016. According to authorities, Bauer was last seen in an Instagram video taken at a park about 10 minutes walk from where the raid took place.
Two weeks prior to going missing, Bauer—who was originally from South Dakota—had relocated to Georgia. She was working as a stripper at a bar called “Teasers,” according to reports, and she was looking for a chance to start over.
Sherri Sichmeller, Bauer’s mother, revealed in a 2017 interview that her daughter had only $20 when she moved to Georgia and was counting on a tax refund that never materialized. According to Sichmeller, the missing teen “was planning to stay with someone that she had talked to on Craigslist,” according to the report. But after just one night, the arrangement ended due to disagreements she had with her new flatmate.
I believe she left her clothes there because she was unsure of what to do. She started dancing as a result of going to look for a hotel room later on, according to Sichmeller.
Recent findings indicate that the course of events may have changed, and the search for Bauer’s whereabouts has been ongoing. Investigators found that, contrary to what they initially thought, her most recent social media post, in which she is seen in a park with a man close behind, was actually posted on February 26 and not February 25. Both the man’s identity and current whereabouts are unknown.
During a press conference on Thursday afternoon, police claimed they had discovered “items of evidentiary interest” connected to the hunt for Morgan Bauer’s remains.
