Legendary British talk show host Michael Parkinson passed away at age 88. He has conducted lengthy chat show interviews with well-known people, including Muhammad Ali, Elton John, Madonna, and Helen Mirren.
The BBC confirmed that he had passed away. The family’s statement was made public by the broadcasting company. “After a brief illness, Sir Michael Parkinson passed away peacefully at home last night in the company of his family,” the statement read. The grieving family asks for space and time to themselves.

In 1971, his program made its debut on BBC television. Marion Montgomery, a jazz musician, was his first appearance on the program. “Michael was the king of the chat show and he defined the format for all the presenters and shows that followed,” BBC director general Tim Davie said of Parkinson. Michael was a broadcaster and journalist who was truly unique and will be sorely missed.
