There is a lot of support for Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon, but don’t look for his girlfriend to make a tearful entrance.
Alcaraz, 20, made a name for himself by winning the US Open last year. He recently recovered the top spot in the rankings before moving on to London, but he maintains a very quiet aspect of his life.
The champion’s wife is Maria Gonzalez Gimenez, but their public demonstrations of affection are restricted to his likes on her Instagram photos, with the most prominent picture of the two dating back more than a year.
Despite their attitude, since Alcaraz made history at Flushing Meadows, Maria’s Instagram followers have increased from about 2000 to 12,000 in a matter of months.
The two appear to share a passion for tennis, since Maria plays with the Murcia Club de Tenis and posted a photo of herself playing in 2020.
Since then, she has uploaded nine additional pictures, three of which feature her posing in a bikini and six of which feature views of the ocean.
Her most recent upload was made in March and had seven poses in fashionable clothing. Alcaraz quickly added a like, which was seen by his 2.6 million followers.
The pair’s aforementioned snap together is undoubtedly an exception.
But in 2021, Alcaraz did write, “My girl!!!” in response to a bikini picture.
Alcaraz earned well under £13 million despite turning 20 only recently, and Wimbledon singles champions stood to receive an additional $2.35 million.
The Spaniard will face Frenchman Alexandre Muller in his second round contest on Centre Court after beating Jeremy Chardy in straight sets earlier in the week.
He said after his victory: “I’m really happy with the level that I play, with the performance today.
“I think I played a really good game today. It’s something that I am going to take to next round.”
