When Luke Deeley killed and dismembered the body of a total stranger, he was 25 years old.
Code Blue: The Killing Of June Fox-Roberts, an ITV series premiering in July 2023, details the police investigation into Deeley’s crime.
Luke Deeley: Who is he?
In November 2021, Luke Deeley, a University of South Wales student, killed a stranger in their own home. Deeley was a paranoid schizophrenic who was reportedly obsessed with “Satan and demons” when he killed June Fox-Roberts. He was a student at a university studying illustration.
After leaving his student housing ten days earlier, he committed the murder of June. After receiving complaints from other students who had asked for his removal, he left the residence.
One complaint stemmed from when he called a female classmate a “b****” and a “c***” and doused her with water.
June Fox-Roberts: What was it that Luke Deeley did to her?
Luke entered June Fox-Roberts’ house on November 21, 2021, where she lived with her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. IT consultant June, who had been widowed more than ten years earlier, was a complete stranger to Deeley.
She had been a resident of her home since 1985. Deeley broke into June’s home in Llantwit Fardre, South Wales, and beat June until she passed out.
Then, after chopping up June’s body and stuffing her limbs in plastic bags, he decapitated her with an axe.
Deeley also had a chainsaw in his possession. At Deeley’s trial, prosecutor John Hipkin KC testified that a bloody chainsaw was visible during a forensic reconstruction of the crime scene.
Despite this, the weapon “was not used in the dismemberment process.”
When June passed away, June’s dog was present in the residence.
One of June’s daughters later discovered the remains of the horrific incident after Deeley fled the scene after killing June.
Luke then decided to alter his appearance by shaving and coloring his hair.
June, a mother of three, was still alive when she sustained blunt force injuries to her head, according to a postmortem.
She displayed signs of “stamping” injuries, and the initial blow to the forehead had knocked her unconscious.
Luke Deeley is currently where?
According to the Mental Health Act, Deeley has been held in a mental hospital indefinitely as of 2023. In March 2023, he entered a diminished responsibility plea to manslaughter.
When Deeley was apprehended two days after June was killed, he told police that a “higher power” had told him to kill someone.
Deeley had a hallucination that someone was “out to get him” at the time of June’s murder, the court later heard.
In a statement following Deeley’s conviction, June’s family claimed that on the day of her passing, their “world imploded.”
They said June had been taken from them “in a horrific way” and that she “had a huge heart” and “had a huge heart.”
“June was not afraid of dying, but she wanted to pass away peacefully with her loved ones by her side. Luke stole that right from her and all of us when he took her life years before her natural time,” they continued.
A letter from Deeley’s parents, which was read aloud by the defendant, stated: “The case is disturbing, shocking, and tragic; our hearts go out to her family.”
“We can only speculate about the trauma and grief they are experiencing. Every morning, we wish their mother were still alive.”
