In connection with a horrifying hammer attack that took place in Brooklyn on Wednesday, a man from New York City by the name of Liyong Ye has been charged with murder and other offenses.
A mother was killed in the attack, and her two children were seriously hurt.
Liyong Ye: who is he?
The age of Liyong Ye is 47. Murder, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon are among the serious offenses for which he has been charged.
He shared a residence with the victim, Zhao Zhao, and her kids, according to media reports. This incident happened on Wednesday just before 2:00 p.m. in a Sunset Park apartment on 52nd Street. NYPD officers found a mother, 43, her 5-year-old son, and her 3-year-old daughter inside the second-floor apartment in the 14-story building. All three victims had severe head injuries and were in critical condition.
The three victims were swiftly taken to a nearby hospital after the attack. Tragically, the mother’s death was confirmed by hospital staff. The suspect, Ye, was caught by law enforcement as he tried to leave the apartment complex after acting quickly. Ye was said to have blood all over him when he was taken into custody.
Police officers initially believed that the victims had been stabbed, but after conducting additional inquiries, it was discovered that a hammer had actually been used in the vicious and devastating assault. They later recovered the hammer from the scene.
Lester Chang, a member of the state assembly, said in a statement following the incident, “This kind of violence is extremely uncommon in our community. They are Fukanese, and they are from China. They are accustomed to living in small, cramped spaces because they live in them every day. For the man to cross that moral line, something had to happen.
