Laura Day took her stepson to the hospital in October 2012, alleging he drowned on a beach excursion.
An investigation determined that her stepson’s death was not accidental, with Day at the top of the suspect list.
Who is Laura Day?
In 2013, Laura Lee Day was found guilty of capital murder in the killing of her 6-year-old stepson, Taylor Syring.
Day was 47 years old and married to her then-husband, David Syring, at the time of the occurrence.
They had barely been married for two months and lived in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Since David’s divorce from Kelly, their son has spent every weekend with his father and Day.
What happened to Taylor Syring?
Day picked up Taylor from school on October 5, 2012, claiming he wanted to go to the beach.
Day claims that she turned back for a second at the beach and Taylor was nowhere to be found.
Day claimed that she removed Taylor’s life jacket before he drowned because he was getting a rash.
When giving her statement, Day mentioned: “I said, ‘If you can show me that you’re OK and you feel safe enough to dive under the waves, and you feel comfortable, then I’ll let you swim and play in the shallow water, without your lifejacket.'”
Despite having CPR certification, Day allegedly did not conduct CPR on Taylor when she resurfaced on the water.
Day claims she became terrified and drove Taylor to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An inquiry was launched three days after the occurrence, and Day was charged with child endangerment, capital murder, and child injury.
Laura had a previous conviction for second-degree murder, according to authorities who reviewed Day’s criminal history.
When Day was 17, she shot her 21-year-old boyfriend after he broke up with her.
She then tried to take her own life but survived and was sentenced to 17 years in prison.
However, Day only served six years before she was released.
Where is Laura Day now?
Laura Day was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after the death of Taylor Syring.
She is presently jailed at Gatesville’s Christina Melton Crain Unit.
Laura and David were separated since her conviction. She is currently dating a pen pal.In June 2022, ABC’s 20/20 aired an episode about the incident in which Laura still says she is innocent.
The episode will be rerun on ABC on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 9 p.m.
