Buffalo Bills co-owner Kim Pegula sat in the front seat of the family’s SUV on Sunday to watch a training camp workout. After suffering a severe cardiac arrest 14 months prior, this was her first public appearance.
Kim Pegula’s daughter Jessica Pegula speculates that there might be additional appearances in the future. The participation of her mother in camp, according to the third-ranked women’s tennis player, was the most recent baby step in her recovery and proof of her desire to be more active.
Kim Pegula: Who is she?
American entrepreneur Pegula and her husband Terry Pegula are two of the Buffalo Bills’ major shareholders. She is also the CEO of Pegula Sports and Entertainment, the holding company for the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League, the Buffalo Bandits and Rochester Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League, and the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres.
The company also looks after the LECOM Harborcenter and the independent record label Black River Entertainment, both of which are based in Nashville. Additionally, she oversees a number of Pegula Sports and Entertainment-owned businesses, including the Bills and Sabres. Only Pegula, Shahid Khan, and Zygi Wilf are NFL team owners who were not born in the nation.
According to the family, Pegula was admitted to an intensive care unit of a Boca Raton hospital in June 2022 for an unspecified reason. When Jessica, Pegula’s daughter, played in the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, she claimed that her mother was recovering and had improved.
Jessica Pegula stated in a Players’ Tribune article that Kim Pegula suffered a cardiac arrest on February 7, 2023. The prolonged lack of oxygen to her brain caused this “brain injury” to progress into “significant expressive aphasia and significant memory issues.” Jessica Pegula credited Kelly Pegula, who had just finished a CPR course, with saving their mother’s life.
