Authorities say a Missouri barricaded suspect was the subject of an hours-long standoff that was resolved Monday afternoon.
After two officers were shot close the previous night, the standoff came to an end about 1:30 pm on Monday.
Just before 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, police were called to a disturbance at the Casey’s General Store at 115 MO-19 in Hermann, Missouri. After arriving on the site, the policemen engaged the suspect in gunfire, according to the police.
On Monday morning, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Detective Sgt. Mason Griffith, one of the policemen who had been shot, had passed away in the hospital. Officer Adam Sullentrup was revealed to the public by the City of Hermann as the second officer.
The suspect, Kenneth Lee Simpson, 35, is thought to have locked himself in a house directly across from Casey’s General Store, according to the authorities.
The suspect was ordered to come out by officers verbally all through the night and early in the morning.
A reporter on the scene Monday morning reportedly observed troopers advancing on the residence while brandishing flashbangs and K-9 cops, according to KMOV.
A robot was witnessed being utilised to break into the house at 10:50 in the morning.
According to court records, Simpson has a lengthy criminal history that dates back to 2004 and includes a number of open cases. He has been evading capture by law enforcement since April 2022.
According to the Associated Press, Hermann is a town with around 2,100 citizens located about 80 miles to the west of St. Louis. It serves as Gasconade County’s county seat.
Regarding the event, a Casey’s General Store spokeswoman issued the following statement:
“Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the officers who were involved, their families, and everyone at the Hermann Police Department. Our team is grateful for the work these officers do to keep our community safe. The store team members were unharmed and the store is currently closed. We are working with the authorities to provide any information or assistance they may need as they investigate this incident.”
