Father of Hansel Rodriguez and a former member of the military police is Jose Rodriguez-Cruz.
Rodriguez-Cruz first connected with Pamela Butler in 2008 while she was residing in Alexandria, Virginia, on an online forum.
They started dating after getting to know one another very quickly. Butler, however, vanished five months after they first met.
Authorities blamed Rodriguez-Cruz as the investigation progressed, but at the time there wasn’t enough evidence to convict him, so his name was dropped.
Authorities were able to take him into custody in 2017, though, after making the connection between Butler’s disappearance and that of his ex-wife Marta Rodriguez in 1989.
Rodriguez-Cruz then acknowledged killing Butler.

Butler called her mother on February 12 to inform her of her romantic plans to dine out on Valentine’s Day with Rodriguez-Cruz.
The following day, Butler’s mother didn’t hear from her, which worried her. With Butler’s brother Derrick, they went to check on her at her house.
They immediately called the police after discovering Butler’s home in ruins.
Rodriguez-Cruz was seen leaving Butler’s house three times on surveillance footage taken the night Butler vanished.
When pressed, he claimed that the two parted ways the following day. She was pronounced legally dead in August 2016, but her brother didn’t accept that.
It wasn’t a coincidence that two of Rodriguez-Cruz’s girlfriends vanished, according to investigators who were able to link remains discovered in 1991 to his missing ex-wife.
Rodriguez-Cruz was brought in as a result of this. Then he confessed to killing Butler by strangulation.
In addition, her body was later discovered close to Intersection 95—the same location where Rodriguez-Cruz’s ex-wife was discovered.
Despite admitting to Butler’s death, he steadfastly insisted that he didn’t murder his ex-wife.

Rodriguez-Cruz is currently serving a prison term for Butler’s murder.
According to a report, he was initially given 12 years, but in 2021 he was given an additional 40 years for the murder of his ex-wife.
