Jonathan Thompson is the Scottish Army officer who serves as the new King’s equerry and is considered somewhat of a “braw darling” (or “hunk” in Scottish slang) by Royal observers due to his handsome appearance.
Formerly, the highest senior bodyguard for the Queen was Major Jonathan Thompson of the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland.
Friends refer to him as “Johnny,” and in recent days he has found himself in the spotlight of historic royal occasions as King Charles III’s equerry. He previously had this position while he was the Prince of Wales.
Major Thompson supervised Charles’ first public outing as monarch on Friday.
The officer afterwards led Prime Minister Liz Truss to Buckingham Palace to meet the King. He was saw yesterday at St. James’ Palace supporting the King as he signed the proclamations.
Major Thompson frequently dons a bulky tartan kilt and a big fur sporran, which made him sweaty during Charles and Camilla’s royal trip of Canada in May.
Those who witnessed the historic event yesterday found it amusing when the Major, a married man, and the Prime Minister shared a romantic glance.
A body language expert joked: ‘This is how most Mexican telenovelas [soap operas] begin.’
The world is envious of PM Truss, wrote one Twitter user. A weekly gathering with King Charles, er, Johnny? ‘We’ll be seeing a lot of him soon,’ another user tweeted. In my dreams, my darling hubby remarked, “Oh look here’s your Major.”
Another Twitter user, who was well-known to be close to the Queen, expressed sympathy for Major Thompson, writing: “I think he looks quite sad, he’s very committed to the Royal Family, bless him.”
He attended the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Service of Thanksgiving in July at St. Paul’s Cathedral while seated behind the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
His position sparked rumors that he was serving as Charles’ “eyes and ears” to keep a check on Harry and Meghan.
