Jon Rahm, the winner of the Masters, improved his round-best score to 63 to climb from 39th to second and put himself in the running for the Open Championship on Saturday. After his third round of 8-under-par and 6-under total, he was four shots behind second-round leader Brian Harman at the time of finishing.
Rahm picked up the pace in the middle of the round, making birdies on four consecutive holes from holes nine to twelve, two more on holes 15 and 16, including a long 33-foot putt on hole 16. He had a round without any bogeys, which was a sharp contrast to the seven bogeys he had the previous two days. Rahm left himself a challenging 11-foot putt on hole 18, which he sank for a birdie.
