Who is Justice John Michael Luttig?
On June 13, 1954, John Michael Luttig was born. He is a well-known American jurist and corporate lawyer who specializes in legal matters. From 1991 to 2006, Luttig served as a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, where he made a significant contribution to the legal community.
He left the court of appeals in 2006 in order to accept the position of general counsel at Boeing, which altered the course of his professional life. Luttig continued to perform this duty until 2019, advancing his illustrious legal and professional career.
After graduating from law school, Luttig spent a year working for the Reagan administration. At this time, at the direction of White House Counsel Fred F. Fielding, he assumed the role of an associate. The Chief Justice at the time, Warren Burger, suggested Luttig for the position.
President George H. W. Bush nominated John Michael Luttig on April 23, 1991, to fill a vacancy on the Fourth Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals. At 37 years old, Luttig was the youngest judge on the federal appeals court at the time of his appointment.
On June 16, 2022, John Luttig testified before the US House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack during a live, on-camera hearing. Luttig expressed his opinion that former President Trump and his supporters had “instigated” an attack on democracy in order to keep their hold on power in a written statement that was submitted for the record prior to the hearing.
