In 2016, an American aid worker was abducted from his residence in West Africa.
On March 20, 2023, he was released after more than six years, and many people are interested in finding out more about him.
Who is Jeffery Woodke?
A missionary and humanitarian named Jeffery Woodke was abducted after 32 years of service in the country of Niger in west Africa.
Els Woodke, Woodke’s wife, claims that a terrorist organisation with ties to ISIS abducted Woodke in 2016.
According to the webpage she created, “On October 14, 2016, some individuals entered Jeff’s home in a tiny pickup truck in the early evening, killed both of his security guards, and then held Jeff at gunpoint inside the vehicle.
“The truck was followed for a while by Jeff’s neighbors but was last seen driving into the night, north towards the Mali border.”
No ransom or concessions were made for the militant organisation holding Jeffrey Woodke, according to a high Biden official.
The same person “characterised the release as the culmination of years of effort but declined to reveal what specifically led to him being released from captivity or where he is now,” according to USA Today.
The wife of Jeffrey Woodke provided information to the New York Times, who later spoke with him for an hour. She was informed that he was in Niamey, the capital of Niger.
She described him in an interview with The Times as being in “great spirits.”
On Monday, March 20, 2023, Olivier Dubois was also set free after nearly two years in detention.
Dubois, a French journalist, was working on assignment in Mali in April 2021 when he vanished.
Later, he may be seen in video that the local al-Qaeda organisation published.
Both men are currently being medically evaluated before they are allowed to return home.
