Jane Sullivan Roberts, the spouse of Chief Justice John Roberts, has recently been the subject of criticism when a former coworker complained in a letter to Congress and the Justice Department that Jane’s position as a lawyer recruiter would create a conflict of interest at the Supreme Court.
The New York Times reported that Boston attorney Kendal Price charged Justice John Roberts with omitting significant information about his wife’s employment during his ethical disclosures. Price said in his letter that justices ought to be open about the employment and compensation of their spouses:
“I do believe that litigants in U.S. courts, and especially the Supreme Court, deserve to know if their judges’ households are receiving six-figure payments from the law firms.”
