According to police papers, the alleged drunk driver involved in the terrible incident that killed a new bride in South Carolina smelled of alcohol and refused to complete a field sobriety test after the disaster.
Jamie Komoroski, 25, also informed authorities that she had a shot of tequila and one drink approximately an hour before the crash that killed 34-year-old Samantha Hutchinson on Friday night, according to WCBD, citing the affidavits.
Komoroski reportedly ploughed into a golf cart carrying Hutchinson, her new husband Aric Hutchinson, and two relatives shortly after the couple’s wedding ceremony in Folly Beach.
According to authorities, she was travelling at 65 miles per hour and only braked seconds before colliding with the cart.
Samantha, 34, of North Carolina, died as a result of the accident. According to ABC News, Aric and a relative were seriously hurt, while the second injured relative was classified in stable condition.
The suspected drunk driver was charged with reckless vehicular murder and three counts of driving while intoxicated resulting in death.
According to police papers acquired by WCBD, when officers arrived at the collision site, they discovered Komoroski smelled of alcohol and she indicated to authorities that her degree of impairment was an 8 on a scale of one to ten.
According to the affidavits, she reportedly told investigators she consumed a beer and one tequila drink around an hour before the incident.
According to papers, the motorist was reportedly wobbly on her feet and “strongly refused and became uncooperative” when requested to complete a field sobriety test.
A warrant for a blood test was issued.
The findings are still awaited.
According to the affidavits, officers observed the golf cart on its side and multiple individuals in need of assistance.
Samantha died on the spot.
While Folly Beach Department of Public Safety Chief Andrew Gilreath could not confirm the cart rolled, he did say it was discovered about 75 yards from the collision, according to ABC News.
Gilreath said the golf cart was allowed to operate and had lights.
“I was handed Aric’s wedding ring in a plastic bag at the hospital, five hours after Sam placed it on his finger and they read each other their vows,” Annette Hutchinson wrote on the GoFundMe. “Aric has lost the love of his life.”
