A Michigan man killed his wife and seriously hurt one of his daughters on Sunday as a result of his preoccupation with the pro-Trump QAnon conspiracy theory, according to his daughter, who spoke to The Daily Beast.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office reports that Igor Lanis, a 53-year-old citizen of the Michigan city of Walled Lake, was shot and killed by police on Sunday after he began firing a shotgun at them.
According to a statement from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the injured kid, a 25-year-old woman, was able to phone the authorities at around 4:11 in the morning. when her father shot her. She was unable to give any details, such as the location of the residence, but after triangulating the call, dispatchers informed the police, who arrived at the house about five minutes later.
The complaint claimed that Lanis emerged from the front and began shooting at them with a Remington 870 pump action shotgun. Landis was killed by gunfire returned by Walled Lake police and Oakland County sheriff’s officers.
“Officers observed the 911 caller/victim, a 25-year-old female, at the front door… attempting to crawl from the home,” the statement said. “They dragged her to safety. She stated that her dad shot her and her mother.”
Tina Lanis, Lanis’ 56-year-old wife, was discovered shot numerous times in the back inside the home by the police. The sheriff’s office stated that “[i]t appears that she was also trying to run out of the front door.” Additionally, the family dog was shot and killed.
Rachel Landis, age 25, was wounded in the back and legs and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. After the procedure, her condition was upgraded to stable, according to the authorities.
The abrupt violence startled Rebecca Lanis, 21, who was at a friend’s birthday celebration and witnessed the murder. Rebecca Lanis is Lanis’ other daughter.
In 2020, according to Rebecca Lanis’ account to The Daily Beast, her father developed an obsession with QAnon and other conspiracy theories. He watched a lot of movies online and adhered to far-right figures like InfoWars’ Alex Jones.
Igor Lanis was a car designer with no history of violence, according to his daughter. Her father changed when Donald Trump lost the 2020 election, but she said her parents were formerly “very loving.”
“He had a sense of reality,” Rebecca Lanis said. “But then after 2020, when Trump lost, he started going down these crazy rabbit holes.”
