A FAMILY was left with unanswered questions after their daughter and mother mysteriously vanished.
Kayla Unbehaun and her mother Heather were found safe and sound six years after they went missing.
Who is Kayla Unbehaun’s mother, Heather?
Kayla Unbehaun and her mother Heather were reported missing on July 5, 2017.
Kayla’s father, Ryan Iskerka, reported their disappearance to police when he went to Heather’s house to pick up their daughter after they spent the weekend together.
Ryan was informed at the time that Heather and Kayla had gone on a camping trip to Wisconsin.
Kayla’s custodial parent was Ryan, and Heather had visitation rights.
However, they did not return that weekend, and local authorities were unable to contact them.
Kayla’s case was featured in the episode Abducted by a Parent of Netflix’s Unsolved Mysteries.
When were Kayla and Heather found?
Kayla and Heather were discovered on May 15, 2023, at a Plato’s Closet store in Asheville, North Carolina.
“I’m overjoyed that Kayla is home safe,” Ryan said in a joint statement with the National Centre for Missing & Exploited Children.
“I want to thank the South Elgin Police Department, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, and all of the law enforcement agencies who assisted with her case.
“I also want to thank all of the followers on the Bring Kayla Home Facebook page, who helped keep her story alive and were instrumental in spreading awareness.
“We ask for privacy as we get to know each other again and navigate this new beginning.”


Why was Heather Unbehaun arrested?
Heather was arrested after being discovered with her daughter, according to the NCMEC update.
She is being held on a $250,000 bond after being accused of kidnapping Kayla.
