Since January 30, Gary Levin, a Lyft driver from Palm Beach Gardens, has gone missing.
On Thursday, a guy who was wanted in connection with a homicide that took place in southwest Florida was spotted driving his automobile in North Carolina.
The daughter of Levin said that her father left his Palm Beach Gardens home on Monday at midday.
His daughter claims that at 1:22 PM on Monday, Levin’s phone was last logged into the Lyft app, picking up a passenger in Delray Beach.
The vehicle, according to the family, was seen by Miami toll road plate cameras. At 2:30 pm on Monday, Levin was then seen entering a Wawa in Boynton Beach.
Levin’s phone was pinged inside the Okeechobee city boundaries, close to Park Street and U.S. 441, the Okeechobee County sheriff verified to WPTV. The family claims that occurred on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Levin’s red 2022 Kia Stinger’s licence plate was detected by camera readers on Wednesday, according to Gainesville police. The Palm Beach Gardens police issued a missing person alert that evening. That turned to a missing and endangered person on Thursday morning.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol then started a pursuit into Rutherford County on Thursday night after seeing Levin’s vehicle in McDowell County.
There was a crash, according to local police, during that pursuit.
According to the authorities, the driver, Matthew Scott Flores, attempted to flee the vehicle but was caught by officers and taken into custody.
In Rutherford County, Flores made an appearance before a judge.
The investigation into this case is currently being conducted by police from Florida to North Carolina.
In North Carolina, Flores was facing allegations of fleeing law police, speeding, and driving while drunk. He was being held without bond for a parole violation and on a $615,000 bond for those same crimes.
He appeared before the judge in a quick hearing in North Carolina, where the bond was set at $2 million and another hearing was set for February 22.
